I’ve heard many times that keeping a gratitude journal is a way of being present, in the moment and living life on purpose, so in 2014 I kept a journal, which is a treasure of all things I am grateful for this year.  As we head into the holidays I wanted to share with you some of the highlights I was grateful for in 2014 (I’m sure you are on the list!)

2014 turned out to be a year of contrasts for me, and I am so grateful for the wonderful people who came into my life during the year, my amazing students, my coaching clients, my friends and my family who all continue lift me up and cheer me on!

A week with Flora Bowley in Bali

My-Tribe

I began the year with a workshop in Bali with Flora Bowley and an amazing group of beautiful artistic souls, including Tamara Laporte (who facilitates the most healing journaling course ‘Life Book’). It was a defining moment in my painting process as the impact of finally letting go allowed me to create some of the most soulful pictures I have ever produced. I am grateful for Flora for helping me find my style but also for helping me understand my need to find my tribe – thank you!

Trouble at home and pulling together

It was not all plain sailing this year at home, and there have been some tough times this year, as my step daughter turned 12 and hormones and self doubt, self criticism stepped in. There has been a lot of drama and upset, lots of talking, creativity and cuddles – it’s not been an easy year for any of her 3 parents, and we hope that with our continued love and support that 2015 will be a happier time for her. If anything the one thing I am grateful for this year is the pulling together of all of us to help support our daughter through this tough time.

Hello Whitney Freya!

Whitney-Freya

In May I was introduced to the wonderful Whitney Freya, author, coach, artist and bright spirit! Through Whitney I discovered how to reach out and connect with my tribe, and 2014 saw me launch my first ‘The Artist Within’ book club, which sold out so quickly I had to launch a second (which also sold out). Whitney also inspired me to run my ‘Meet Your Inner Artist’ painting workshop for complete beginners, and this experience I feel may have changed my life forever.   I am grateful for Whitney and her guidance and amazing generosity.

Sharing creative meditation

I exhibited at a couple of major Auckland shows this year, and sold a number of works. My painting practice continues to be my creative meditation and my port in the wild storms of life. I have found in 2014 the absolute joy of sharing my practice with students, and I am looking forward in 2015 as I am developing more workshops and have a waiting list already! I am grateful every day for my creativity and realise how lucky I am to be able to share it with others – thank you universe!

Creative adventurers!

Takapuna Book ClubMy students and coaching clients – oh my gosh I don’t know where to start on this topic. I have learned so much from my students and clients, this year. From the amazing ladies who join me as creative adventurers at my book clubs. To the brave ladies who threw themselves into the beginners painting and the experienced painter who came along to let go – I have enjoyed every interaction. To my coaching clients who amaze and inspire me with their willingness to look inward and then journey onward. I am so grateful to all of you for being part of my journey too.

My rock, my twin flame

My partner finished year two of his jewellery diploma this year, and I have been supporting him as a full time student. I am so proud of him, having taken the leap from 24 years of IT/Telecommunications to the scary world of design, art history and jewellery making. I say that I am supporting him, but he is also supporting me. He is the shoulder I cry on, the person who reaches into the dark pit I may find myself in and offers me a supportive hand up. He is also my IT guy, my canvas maker, my artwork delivery service, gardener and handy man. There is not a day goes by that I am not grateful to the universe for us finding each other.

Family and friends

Finally my family who are so far away in the UK, and with whom I would love to spend more time. It was wonderful catching up this year, and spending so much quality time together. To my brother and his lovely wife who are due to have their first babies in January – sending you all the love in the world. To my parents to have supported me in my journey this year with words of encouragement from afar – thank you! I am grateful for my loving and supportive family and friends who love me (with all of my faults) for just being me.
