Last Sunday I spent a very enjoyable workshop with my beginners painting group at Mairangi Arts Centre.  Though most of them had not met before I saw the class laughing, sharing and appreciating each others efforts – it was so heartwarming to see.

I always encourage my students to wander the room and see what each student is doing.  I encourage laughter, a bit of silliness, getting your hands into the paint, getting messy and above all supportiveness.

Fun at beginners painting 010315At lunch time we all hung out together in the sunshine, and shared stories about ourselves and our families. I so love the feeling of community which comes from my groups, and like to think that they will form friendships which will extend much further than my workshops.

Next Sunday is the second and final part of this particular workshop, and I am keeping the subject matter for the day secret from them for now (it all adds to the fun on the day!).  I know it is going to be another wonderfully creative day and a testament to the fact that even though my students often say ‘I am not creative’ or ‘I can’t even draw a straight line’ it’s always proved not to be true!

  1. Looks like a glorious day of creating and I’m sure they can’t wait for part two!

    1. It was glorious you’re right! and I’ve already had a few mails saying how much fun and relaxing it was – I can’t wait for part two myself!
